Foarte bun vinul de Cricova...
,,Şi Afrodita cea în şolduri lată,
Åži Joe, cu alaiul lui ceresc,
Nu s-au ivit din bolta înstelată,
Ci dintr-o amforă cu vin grecesc,,

epigramă de Păstorel Teodoreanu

Fiecare popor are in traditia lui acel specific care-l caracterizeaza si ii da personalitate, il formeaza de-a lungul veacurilor ce trec peste teritoriul si generatiile ce traiesc in aceste spatii.

Cricova is one of the very few wineries in the world that produce sparkling wines in accordance with the classical French method, purportedly invented centuries ago by the monk Dom Pierre Perignon – "Methode Champenoise", by means of the secondary in-bottle fermentation and an ultimate maturation cuvée in horizontal position of at least 3 years.

Cricova makes a unique sparkling red wine, kodrinskoie-sparkling, made from cabernet sauvignon stocks and marketed as having a `rich velvet texture and a blackcurrant and cherry taste`.

The "Grand Cellars of Cricova" house a remarkable collection of wines – The National Oenotec. The unique exhibits ("Jerusalem of Easter" vintage 1902, the liqueur "Jan Becker" vintage 1902) together with other 158 brands from Bourgogne, Moseley, Tokay, Rein, etc. – make up the precious thesaurus of the establishment as well as of Moldova in general, comprising nowadays a total of about 1.3 million bottles.

However, the pride of the Oenotec are, first of all, the wines bearing the name "Cricova", which brought the winery a collection of national and international tasting awards. As of 2008, the collection consists of over 70 silver, gold and Grand Prix awards[

Cricova is a Moldovan town, located 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) north of Chiºinãu, the capital of the country. Cricova is famous for its wine cellars, which make it a popular attraction for tourists.

The town`s population is 9,878 (as of 2004), of which 7,651 are ethnic Moldavians, 788 Ukrainians, 1,123 Russians, 82 Gagauzians, 74 Bulgarians, 6 Jews, 2 Poles, 29 Gypsies, and 123 other/non-declared.

Cricova lies near the river Ichel, which goes into the Nistru river, which supplies Chiºinãu with water. The water from Ichel is not used in Cricova. In the northern part of the river is situated a lake (which is near the entrance to the Cricova wine cellars), which was generally used either for fishing or entertainment.

Near the town are some mines, used for limestone extraction, some of them are older than 50 years.

The town of Cricova was first recorded on July 31, 1431, with the name- "Vadul-Pietrei" ("Stone hills"). Later the name "Cricãu" appears in Zamfir Arbore`s geographical calendar, over time turning into Cricova.

The year of 1952. This is the year of foundation of the unique, majestic “CRICOVA” wine temple, known not only in Moldova, but widely abroad.
While visiting in 1952 the abandoned underground adits, where sawed stone of shell-rock has been mined and used as a building material for civil-industrial sites, the ancestor of wine production, Mr. Piotr Ungureanu and others, discovered a microclimate, ideal for dry and sparkling wines storage. Here, a constant temperature of 10-14 C and high level of humidity of 95-98 % are kept all the year round. After the clearing of sawed stone waste and some insignificant works on deepening, communication and asphaltation, fine wine materials of 50 thousand dal. per year has been brought here, and, firstly in the Republic, in 1955 it has been started the production (in small installments of 50 -150 bottles per year) of sparkling wines by "CHAMPENOISE" method - with the second fermentation of wine in the bottle
